A Touch of Brimstone
by McKenzie Hunter
(Magic of the Damned, #1)
Publication date: August 19th 2021
Genres: Adult, Fantasy, New Adult

They say you should never make a deal with the devil, but what about with the Prince of the Underworld?

Fresh off a breakup and an eviction, I started my day like any other: a book in one hand, a coffee in the other, and faking that can-do attitude inspirational memes are made of. I was ready to take on the world—and I did.
Unfortunately, it was the Underworld.

One freak accident later, I’m standing face to face with the sexy-as-sin and dangerously powerful Prince of the Underworld. He has a few burning questions for me—like how a mere human unlocked the door to the Underworld’s prison and released its prisoners.

I’d sure as hell like to know, too, because I have no freaking clue.

Now, instead of a forgettable bookstore clerk, I’m newly famous for doing the impossible. The wrong people want to thank me, and the rest want me dead. Spoiler alert: The Dark Prince definitely doesn’t want to thank me.

I’ll do anything to get my life back to normal and he’ll do anything to recapture the escapees. We make a deal: He’ll keep my enemies at bay, and I’ll find a way to return the prisoners.

What could possibly go wrong?

Excerpt:

“I’ve been pulled into something that I definitely don’t want to be in, dealing with people I hope to never encounter again. I want it to be over. I want to have nothing to do with this situation or you dreadful people.” I lifted my hand, presenting the markings. “If working with you is the only way, then I’m in. If we are working together, no more threats. I don’t care how thinly veiled they are. You will not bully me. Are we clear?”

His expression changed but it was still indecipherable. Understanding? I don’t think that was it. Amusement? Definitely. Portentous? It better not be.

His lips curled slightly into a small, tight, mirthless smile. He looked over his shoulder at Anand who flashed a grin. “I’ve been commanded to behave,” Dominic said to him. The laughter in his voice made its way to his eyes.

“Little Luna.”

“It’s just Luna,” I shot back.

“Luna. You are correct. I want to find the person behind this, especially if it is a Dark Caster. I know their history and the chaos and destruction they enjoy. It needs to be stopped. And to do so, we will have to work together.”

I’d been abducted and attacked by a vampire, sniffed by a lion, interrogated by a witch, and nearly devoured—or whatever his intentions were—by a wolf. I had every right to be overly cautious and I didn’t like the subtle undertones in his response. A limited alliance.

Excerpt:

“Dammit,” she cursed more under breath as she fought her hair.

It was amusing to watch for two reasons. One, because when Odette was frustrated, she spoke and cursed to herself. And second, I was amazed by how her long curls magically shrunk, rising from the middle of her back to her shoulders and puffing out a bit from the water in the shower.

“Why? Why are you doing this to me now?” she asked her hair as if it were a person, and I just snorted, exposing myself. Her head whipped around, and I clamped my lips shut. “Are you laughing at me? This your fault!”

“Your hair is my fault?”

“Yes, you, Mr. Swoon eyes,” she snapped. “Of course, I would be all Gone With the Wind when you stare at me like that, making forget that I’m not in my home, with my shower caps or combs or even, at least, essential oils and hair moisture to prevent my hair from doing this. I just hopped into the shower, all dazed.”

I could not hold it anymore. I really couldn’t without busting a gut. I laughed so hard my eyes started watering, which Odette just made a face at, before turning around for anything in the sink to help with her current hair apocalypse. Containing myself, I walked up behind her as she gave up. Nothing I had was any use. Instead, she kept trying to brush it out of her face.

She met my eyes in the mirror, glaring for a bit before sighing. “Everyone in the world is going to see me today. I do not want to look—”

“You will look beautiful because you are beautiful,” I said, placing my hands on her shoulders. “Do not stress. You can take as much time as you need.”

Title: Say You’ll Be There (Love in Seven Mile Forge #2)
Author: Billie Dale
Publication Date: October 1st 2020
Genres: Comedy, New Adult, Romance
From award winning author Billie Dale comes a second chance love story muddling the line between love and hate. As young love goes Joey and Preslee were perfect but nothing last forever and the world is ready for the taking. Dale’s sassy wit shines in comedic fashion with Say You’ll Be There, book two in Love in Seven Mile Forge.

At sixteen, Joey Holmes handed me his heart.

At eighteen, I threw it at the Now Leaving Seven Mile Forge sign on my way out of town.

A silly teenage game of seven minutes in heaven spiraled us from friends to more.

We shared our firsts. Loved with the innocence of immaturity.

I wanted out. A fresh start far away from our tiny home town. Joey didn’t care where we were so long as we were together. I couldn’t spread my wings without clipping his. My heart told me I was doing what was best when I left him broken in my rearview mirror.

With a threat breathing down my neck, I’m forced to return home but Joey isn’t the skinny boy I knew. Nope, now he’s the sexiest Chief of Police in three states and he hates the very air I breathe.

Can the hot cop keep me safe from the danger lurking in the shadows or will the bleached bones of the skeletons in my closet be our tragic end?

EXCERPT:

I recognize this man-child smile. The one capable of turning the hardest, scariest enforcer into a big kid.

“Joey? Josiah Holmes?”

Fuck my life. He was a slumpy, nothing, short stack the last time we were together. Not much bigger than me, which I enjoyed because when I wore heels I was actually taller than someone. Now he’s all towering, beefy, and take it all off hot.

“I’m gonna run these. Sit tight and don’t make any sudden jerky movements.” He yanks the items from my hand.

“Joey? Come on, it’s me. I’m cold and headed to Sammy Lee’s. Can’t we let this one slide?” I blink my eyes, remembering how he never could tell me no when I turned on the charm.

His cheeky vigor falls to a thin pinched line. “Officer Holmes,” his voice lowers, turning jaded. “And I let nothing slide. Roads are too nasty for the speed you were driving.” The icy bite of his tone is worse than the blustering winter tundra surrounding me. He twists on his thick boot heel, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t watch those tight ass-cupping pants walk back to his car.

The frost continues when he returns, handing me a ticket and my documents. “Slow it down,” he warns. He pauses on his path away, turning those irritating glass-hidden eyes, which I want to slap off his face. “Welcome home, Preslee Carmichael,” he jeers. Cocking a one-sided smirk, he head bobs in that Southern gentlemanly way and walks to his car.

I spend the rest of the drive to Double V ranch pissed off. Angry at the insane circumstances that sent me running home, raging because my brother can’t be here for a few weeks, and irritated at Joey Fucking Holmes for not only ticketing me, but also pretending we meant nothing to each other and being delicious while he did it.

Fuck my life and fuck Seven Mile Forge.

He’s going to keep an eye on Willow, be her friend. That’s it.
Their sizzling sexual chemistry makes this whole platonic things hard.
But there’s no way he’ll cross the line with the girl he’s supposed to protect.
Excerpt:
The room is dark except for the yellow light streaming from under the closed bathroom door. Quiet except for the tap-tap-tap of the shower.

Then there's no more tap-tap-tap. The shower is off.

I grope the wall for the light switch. Nothing. Still dark.

Okay. No big deal. My brother knows I'm coming. I knock just in case my ETA text messages didn't get through. "Drew. It's me. Take your time."

No response. Maybe he didn't hear me. I go to knock again but the handle turns.

The bathroom door pulls open. Light pours into the main room. It surrounds a muscular man in a soft, yellow glow.

That's not Drew.

Thank God, because he's naked.

Completely and totally naked.

There's a strange naked man in Drew's hotel room, and he's between me and the exit.

I take a step backwards. There's nowhere to go. I'm against the wall. My heart beat speeds up. This guy doesn’t look menacing but that's not enough to convince the nerves in my stomach to settle.

"Hey. Didn't think you were coming," he says.

His voice is calm. Not threatening.

I take a deep breath. This must be an innocent mistake. The guy at the front desk gave me the wrong key.

Please let it be an innocent mistake.

"Alice?" he asks.

I shake my head. I'm not Alice. Given the way he's standing, tall and proud and utterly naked, she must be a sexual partner.

He reaches for something and the room illuminates. He's no longer highlights on hard muscles. Actually, he's really familiar. Green eyes. Dark blond hair hanging wet around his face. Soft lips curled into a welcoming smile.

I know him. Know who he is.

Relief floods my limbs as I exhale. That's him. Tom Steele, the drummer in my guitarist brother's alternative rock band, Sinful Serenade.

He's not dangerous. He's my brother's best friend.

Give or take. Drew isn't really the friendly type.

"Did you change your hair?" he asks. "Your nose maybe? Don't get me wrong. You look good. Just different."

I shake my head. My mouth is too sticky to form words.

He's naked.

My eyes won't co-operate with me. They trace a line down his body. Strong jaw, soft lips, broad shoulders, sculpted torso.

I've seen plenty of men naked in photography classes, but none of them made me feel sweaty and flushed.

My gaze goes lower.

To his happy trail.

Lower.

Holy shit.

He's pierced. There's a barbell stud going through the top to the bottom of his tip.

My jaw drops. "Is that a..."

"Prince Albert?"

It's impossible to speak. I nod.

"It's an apadravya. Like a Prince Albert but on both sides."

"Oh."

"It's new," he says. "Real new, actually. I'm out of commission for another three weeks. But I still have a mouth and two hands, so hop on the bed."

Me... on the bed... with Tom.

He steps closer. "You're not Alice, are you?"

Finally, I collect some hint of my senses. "No, I'm sorry." I press my back against the wall. Nerves collect in my stomach. Not fear but embarrassment. "Isn't this Drew's room?"

"We switched." His eyes fix on mine. "How did you get a key?"

It is an honest mistake. That's a relief. How did I get this key? At the desk. Asking for Bruce Wayne. It's hard to think given the circumstances. I say the first thing that makes it to my lips. "You're naked."

He laughs. "You're observant."

I can't drag my gaze away from his piercing. "Didn't that hurt?"

"Not as much as you'd think."

"What's the point?"

He studies my expression. "If you don't like it stop staring."

I press my eyelids together. "Sorry."

"You want to tell me what you're doing in my hotel room?"

"I thought this was Drew's room."

Somehow, I manage to look him in the eyes. That's definitely Tom. We've never met—I was in boarding school when the band was forming—but I’ve seen him in music videos and on the cover of Rolling Stone.

Tom pulls a towel around his waist. That makes it easier to think.

"I'm Drew's sister. Willow." I dig into my purse and pull out my driver's license. "Here. See."

Tom glances at the ID then returns it. "You shoulda told me before I let you gawk." He goes to the bed, digs through an open suitcase, and pulls on a pair of boxers. "I don't mind. I'm not shy. But your brother will kill me if he finds out you saw me naked."

There's a tattoo of a lion on his chest. Thick black lines. The pattern continues down his arm, all the way to his wrist.

"I know I'm sexy as hell, but you should probably stop staring."

God, he's right. I'm being all kinds of rude. There's no excuse. "I'm sorry. It's just—"

"Been a while?"

"Something like that." My cheeks flush. It's been six years since I've had sex. Six years since I've felt a hint of desire.

"I feel you, kid. I'm under strict orders from my piercer: no sex for six weeks." He looks back to me with a playful smile. "Can't even fuck myself."

He's casual with that information. Hi, I'm Tom, my cock is pierced, I can't fuck anyone for three more weeks. Not even myself.

Tom gets dressed like it doesn't bother him that I'm gawking. Skinny jeans. Converse. V-neck. Tight cotton hoodie.

Picture perfect, effortlessly cool rock star.

I press my hands against my sides and force myself to stare at the wall. Okay. We've got this mix up settled. Now I have to figure out what the hell I'm going to say to Drew about why I'm here. The truth isn't an option.

Tom's voice pulls me out of my thoughts.

"Hope I didn't scare you." He smirks and motions to his now clothed crotch. "I know it's a monster."

I clear my throat. "I wasn't expecting a naked man in my hotel room."

"You look rattled."

"Surprised."

"Intrigued?" He raises a brow.

My cheeks flush. "I've never seen a, uh, piercing like that before." I press my lips together before I shove my foot into my mouth. "I have a lot on my mind. That's all."

His eyes pass over me. "If you need something—money a place to stay–I can arrange that."

I study his expression for a clue to his intentions. He seems earnest but I don't trust my instincts when it comes to men. "No thanks. It's a family thing."

Tom raises an eyebrow. "As you wish." He taps a few numbers into the hotel phone's keypad and brings it to his ear. "Hey. You two finished? I ran into your sister at the front desk. You want me to bring her over?" Tom laughs at whatever Drew says. "I know. I wouldn't. I'm too beautiful to die." He sets the phone back in the receiver. His eyes meet mine. "He's ready. Room 417."

I nod. "Thank you. And sorry."

"I don't mind." Tom shrugs. "Just keep this between us."

"Sure." It's too mortifying to tell anyone. "Good night." I grab my bag, sling it over my shoulder, and reach for the door.

"Willow—"

"Yeah?"

"There are leaked pics of me online. If you need to take another look."

Instead of Prince Charming, I got Him.
Skylar
I promised I’d save myself for my wedding night.
Of course, I didn’t know it was going to be a fake marriage to a heavyweight MMA fighter. I couldn’t have known how good it would feel to be pinned under all those muscles and tattoos, squirming, panting, and even whimpering in ecstasy.
None of us knew how deeply he was involved with the mafia.
When he disrespects them, they think they can use me to punish him.
They’re wrong.
He’s a tank in human form.
And he’s coming for me.
Austin
Men tap out inside the ring, women surrender themselves outside of it. That’s always been my specialty.
I chose Skylar because she was so innocent. A good girl like her would help sell my reformed image to the public. To corrupt her and leave her ruined for all other men would be my hottest conquest yet.
But I found more in Skylar than that. Who’d have thought that the first woman I wanted to lay more than once would be my wife?
Now they think they can take away what is mine?
Even if I have to kill every last member of the Bertolini Crime Family…
I’m coming for her.
Purchase Book 1:

Excerpt:
I felt like I was sitting inside my own head watching a movie play out as I dropped the remains of my apple in the trash and headed towards the Tier-1 fighters’ area. Uncle Malcolm wasn’t here to show me what to do. All I had was less than a year of study and a general appreciation of massages to rely on. It would have to do.

The Tier-1 wing had a guard at the door who looked mean enough to actually fight for NHBFC, but he let me through when he saw my uniform and heard that Gordon had sent me at Henry’s request. The hallway behind said door was just as chaotic as the ones I’d just left, but for a completely different reason.

With a smaller group of fighters to look after, and an already smaller staff diminished by illness, it was the MMA groupies making the most noise over here. Clusters of some of the most stunning girls currently in the city hovered around their favorite fighters’ doors, giggling and talking loudly. It wasn’t official of course, but the guard knew only to let in the best of the best.

The intensity of their beauty only served to make me feel self-conscious, as I awkwardly nudged my way through them to Austin’s door. Most of them were taller than me and the tops they wore made absolutely sure to show off their breasts, at my eye-level, to maximum effect.

They made me feel like a potato in a diamond display case as I sheepishly knocked on the door. A few moments later an older guy, Austin’s coach, snatched the door open.

“I told you bitches he isn’t ready yet!”

“Uh, Gordon sent me? Henry said you-”

“Oh, right, yeah. He’s just in the shower-”

The groupies in earshot all squealed and started talking at once.

“You come in, he’ll be ready in a second, I’m stepping out. Lock it behind you. Which of you girls wants to do me a special favor so I put a good word in for you with The Killer?”

I squeezed past him as a chorus of “I do!” “I will” rang out behind me. One of them said “How come the cleaning lady gets to go in?” Another said, “I’ll deepthroat your-” just as the door clicked shut.

Stepping into a Tier-1 dressing room after working on the other side for so long was like stepping into first-class on an airplane after only ever flying coach. They had all the same stuff that we had, but instead of bare concrete, there was actual paint on the walls, a permanent massage table, a brand new heavy punching bag hung from the ceiling on a chain. Plenty of bells and whistles.

Steam poured out of a cracked-open door and I could hear a shower running. I walked over and paused by the door, before knocking even more tentatively than I had on the other one.

“Austin? I’m here for the-”

“I told Ross to tell you I wasn’t ready!” he yelled out.

“Uh… no I’m not… uh… I work here? Henry said you needed a massage?”

“Oh, yeah. I’ll be right out.”

The sound of running water stopped and I caught a flash of movement in the steamed-up mirror through the opening. Quickly, I turned and faced the other way, ashamed at the flush of excitement that came unbidden and made me bite my bottom lip without thinking about it.

After a couple minutes I felt the waft of air as the door was pulled open behind me, and turned to face him. Standing there, wearing only a towel, with beads of water dripping down his neck and torso from his hair, was fan (and my) favorite, Austin “The Killer” Aquila.

That perfectly sculpted body looked like it was made from granite by an artist with an eye for sin, then decorated with ink in designs that curled all over. His thick arms had contours that drew my eyes up to his broad shoulders, and then sent them down across his pecs and over each and every bump of his abs.

His lower abdominals formed lines that narrowed as my eyes roamed lower… lower… lower until the visual ride was abruptly cut off by the towel, which he held up by one hand.

I looked up and heard my jaw click shut when our eyes met. I only hoped I’d closed my mouth before I drooled. If I was looking at him like a piece of art, he was looking at me like a piece of food, and it took all my willpower not to find a plate to climb on to.

All heavyweights have a certain presence. It would be hard not to when you’re a tank that has briefly assumed human form, but Austin had presence that almost seemed to make the air crackle between us and around him. His eyes, they were looking at me in a way that would give my dad a stroke. That brought me partway back to reality.

“Um… over there?” I pointed at the massage table.

“You sure you work here?” he asked.

“Yeah, I… I normally work in Tier-2…”

Austin closed the distance between us and leaned down towards me. My heart tried to jump up my throat to get a better view out my mouth at all that solid muscle so close to me, and my ability to breathe be damned.

“Because, if you’re another girl that stole a uniform just to get in here… well, I’ll have to do to you what I did to her.”

A drop of water fell from his head and landed on my ear, making me flinch. The scent of soap and the faint musk of him filled my lungs as I took a deep breath to offer whatever reassurance I could.

“I promise I work here,” I squeaked.

Good girls finish last.
The contest is heating up in every way imaginable.
Bridget still only wants one thing: the money she needs to sort out her life, and the lives of those who depend upon her. And so far, nothing has broken the boundaries of what she’ll do for that money—though that edge keeps pushing further and further each day.
But now, battle lines are being drawn. Kylie versus Bridget, and everyone else falling over themselves to choose a side.
Kylie’s convinced Bridget wants to win, no matter what Bridget tells her to the contrary. And Kylie is determined that the top spot will go to her, and to her alone.
And all the while, Daniel Rice lurks at the edges of the contest—an unforgettable, unforgivable thorn in Bridget’s side, a ghost haunting her steps, a desperate need in her yearning core.
They say the competition can only have one winner. But the way things are going, Bridget isn’t sure there will even be that many.
Choose a side in Inferno Falls’ sexiest adventure yet.
Excerpt:

“What experiment?” My eye keeps wandering to the laptop, and it’s difficult to keep myself from being distracted from the reason I came here in the first place.

“All that you need to understand, Bridget, is that the true competition is about to begin. Not because of anything we’re doing, but because of what the girls probably will. That group has spent a half hour following instructions, unsure why they’re doing any of it. Yours has spent a half hour waiting and mentally preparing for something that, as you see, isn’t actually scintillating at all. It’s not an elegant group date. It’s not skydiving or hiking. It’s not a bunch of screwing. It’s the dead opposite of stimulating or pleasurable.”

“And that means — ”

“This is the most clinical, most frustrating form of foreplay, but it still contains foreplay’s secret ingredient: anticipation. After all this annoying waffling following last night’s expectations, the wait for what they’re sure must be coming eventually is just turning up the heat.”

“I don’t see your point.”

“They’re going to be horny. Like you.”

“I’m not horny.”

“Normal social rules don’t apply. We’ve made it clear that this is a morally loose atmosphere. They’re free to do what they want when they want. The whole place is designed to be subtly charged, but seldom overtly. We don’t want any of you compelled. It’s exactly the opposite. My goal, in observing, is always to determine what any of you will do on your own, without us telling you to. This group has been thoroughly screened. They’re not the types to hang back for long. And once one of them crosses a line in either group, the normal competitive urge in the others, combined with their arousal, will quickly escalate the situation. I know you don’t think you’re like them, Bridget. But you’re not immune, either.”

“I said, I’m not horny.”

“Your pupils are dilated. I can see the pulse in your throat, and you can’t keep your lips together.”

Holy shit. He’s right. I thought I was just pissed off and annoyed, but I’m totally fucking wet. Back in the room, with nothing going on, keeping my distance from Kylie, I could only think about what the Ones must be doing. I distinctly remember wondering how Logan and Tony, if they were servicing the other girls, would be able to service my group when it was time. I wondered if, after enough time of waiting, Richard would start trying to warm us up. Maybe take some of the pressure off. I’d keep my distance from him, too, but the thought still infiltrated my mind. I pictured things ramping up, clothes coming off. I’d have to sit and watch, like I sat and watched with Erin and Tony back in my room. And then that image was in my head. God help me, I found seeing them fuck right in front of me hot as shit. I’ve thought of it and touched myself, subtly and more overtly, since.

“No matter what happens,” Daniel says, “you have to resist. Do you hear me? Don’t join in, no matter what the other girls do.”

I want to issue something on the spectrum of Of course not; what kind of slut do you think I am?, but now there’s a porno playing in my mind, and part of me wants what I’d normally deny. Part of me wants to hear those sounds. See those sights. And, if it has to happen, maybe feel those sensations. Even if it’s my own hand doing the wandering, I somehow doubt — after a few days in hedonist’s paradise — that I’ll feel the need to sit upright and play the good girl to the bitter end.

“Why not?” I say instead.

“The first reason is that if you don’t want to be thrown out for real this time, you need to prove you’re not some sort of a plant. Trevor already suspects I wasn’t as thorough with you as I was with the others, and if he can confirm it, we’ll both be in trouble. But I know how you are, and so does Trevor, from the profile I already showed him. If you let yourself go too fast, he’ll suspect you’ve been tampered with. He’ll assume you would only turn contrary to your normal tendencies that quickly if something outside of himself and the other men has been stimulating you, away from the cameras.” He hesitates. “Or erased from them.”

He means himself. He means the stimulation he’s given me, both directly that first day in my room and later, without so much as touching me. He means our special, unique circumstances. His saving me, shoving me back into this competition, paying off my mother’s medical needs. Maybe the live-action foreplay we had before arriving, outside the club and in the limo. He’s not supposed to do any of that. He’s supposed to be off limits and objective. He’s not supposed to coach, or play favorites.

“Okay. I’ll stay out.” A prissy voice in my head tells me that this is hardly a concession, since I’d never have done anything anyway. I’m not that kind of person. Except that in the past few days, I’ve learned that maybe I’m not who I thought I was after all.

“But the second reason matters much more than whatever Trevor thinks.”

I swallow, feeling the arousal I didn’t even know was there throb like a giant heart inside me.

“What’s that?”

“Because I don’t want you to.” He levels a hard stare in my direction. “Because you’re mine.”

I like fast cars, beautiful women and great sex.
I hate drugs. I can’t stand the idiots who take them and I loathe the bastards who supply them. Drugs cost me my whole world.
I wear many faces; right now I’m Doctor Lucas Callaghan and I’ll be him until I get my revenge.
My real name will be the last words to ever pass their lips.
I hate my name, Aoife Brennan, as soon as people hear it they treat me differently because of my father.
Medical school isn’t my dream, it’s his. But, it’s the least I owe him after everything I’ve done. I’m trying to be a good girl, but even good girls make mistakes.
He’s lying about who he is, she’s kidding herself about who she can be. They’re polar opposites with one very big secret in common.
Excerpt:

I follow him to the front door. We both stand in the hall for longer than necessary. I don’t offer to let him out, even though I know I should. But I want him to kiss me again. I want so much more than I know I can have.
He reaches for the doorknob. He’s going to let himself out. God, I don’t want him to go. Not like this.
‘I’m sorry,’ I say, finally breaking the silence.
‘For what?’
‘I shouldn’t have kissed you.’
‘And I shouldn’t have kissed you back.’
He’s smiling. And for the first time since we met, the cloud of sadness that usually rests in the corner of his eyes is absent.
‘Are we okay, then?’ I stutter.
‘You mean am I going to tell anyone about this?’
‘Well, yeah?’
‘No, Aoife. No, I’m not. I’m as much to blame as you are. Probably more so because I should know better.’
‘I’m not a child, Lucas. I do understand the word no.’
He looks at me as if he wants to rip my clothes off. I kind of wish he would. I take a deep breath.
‘If you kissed me again, I wouldn’t say no this time either,’ I say.
My teeth clamp against my bottom lip. I can’t believe I said that out loud. But all I can think about is how good his lips felt on mine and how much I want to feel them again. Kiss me, Lucas. Kiss me.
As if he reads my mind, Lucas’ hands grip my waist. One hand just above each hip, cementing me to the spot. His eyes focus on mine with such intensity, it burns.
‘You should say no, Aoife. You should run a mile from me.’
‘Why? Because you loved someone and losing them has fucked with your head?’
His eyes narrow, and his grip on my waist tightens almost to the point of hurting. I know it’s a flash of temper. This man is the nearest thing to a stranger to me. He could lose it completely and really hurt me, but I know he won’t. I trust him as I’ve never really trusted anyone before.
‘No. Because you don’t know me. You don’t know what I’m capable of.’
‘Then show me.’
‘Be careful what you wish for.’
‘I’ve already seen what you’re capable of. I’ve seen how much you care about people, but you try to hide that under a layer of fancy talk and cocky attitude.’
He forces me backwards, his hands still on my waist. I make a weird noise that I haven’t heard before as my back collides with the wall behind me, slapping the air out of my chest.
‘Don’t go there, Doctor Brennan. You’re not a psychology student.’
‘No. I’m just the girl you kissed. The girl who is still standing in front of you ten minutes later and waiting for you to do it again.’

Excerpt:

“Do you need any more help?” I stepped out of Kyler’s grasp and glanced around the kitchen. It looked like chaos…but organized chaos.

“Nope. Everything is settled in here.” She hooked her arm through mine and led me out of the kitchen. Noah and Eli were sitting on the couch when we entered the living room. She nudged my arm, gave me a wink and turned to the guys. “Eli, would you mind running with Haley to get the pizzas?”

“I can get them myself.” Eli stood and headed for the door. I stared after him, hurt that he didn’t even want to be alone with me. Was he still just trying to give me space? Or did he finally realize that I was more trouble than he wanted?

“Well, I know you could. But I need Haley to stop at the store…I forgot something.” Kyler nudged my arm again, tilting her head slightly in the direction of the door.

I’m fluent in Kyler non-verbal gestures, and clearly, she was telling me to get out that front door. But my feet paused at the look Eli flashed Kyler. His eyes shone uncertainly. His gaze flicked to me quickly, but I caught the softness in them before they darted back to Kyler.

“What is it? I can pick that up too.” He plucked his keys from the table and propped himself up against the doorframe, waiting for Kyler to finish.

“Oh, well…I um forgot… I um…need some tampons.” She blurted out. I swear every single face in the room turned red.

Noah looked Kyler up and down before opening his mouth. “But I thought…” Kyler held up a hand to stop him and gave him a short glare before turning back to Eli.

“So did you want to pick those up? I’d have to write it down. Haley knows what kind I use, so it’d be easy for her to just grab them. But if you want to go at it alone—”

Eli interrupted her. “No, that’s okay. I could use Haley’s help.” He rushed out the door before Kyler could continue on about her feminine needs.

“Didn’t you just have your period?” My question hit Kyler’s smirk. I didn’t even need her to reply since I knew the answer. We were roommates after all.

Kyler winked at me again, before she pushed me toward the door. “You’re welcome!” I heard her say as I exited the house.

The feisty southern beauty normally gets what she wants, and Rage wants to give her everything.
With the truth lurking in the shadows, Rage must decide if his sweetest addiction is worth giving up his second chance.
Excerpt:
Empty beer cans littered the floor of the stairs, a bra hung from the end railing. The second floor was darker than the bottom where lights hung. Couples swayed to the slow music, oblivious to anything outside of themselves. It didn’t take long to find Neveah because of the damn clothes she had on.

Just in the twenty seconds it took me to get to her, three guys had looked at her ass. My body hummed at the threat of anyone touching her except me. And she wasn’t even mine—or palpable.

The drink in her hand was almost empty, and by the way she swayed on her feet, I’d say she’d downed it.

Gripping her elbow, I twisted her toward me. Those moss green eyes were furious, her sharp brows slanted in an anger that drove through my chest. “Neveah, listen—,”

“What’s your real name?” she blurted out, her fist bunching with the front of my T-shirt. All the blood in my body raced toward my dick, her hands so tiny but aggressive on me turned something on inside of me that I feared I couldn’t turn back off.

Before I did what I wanted in front of everyone, I grasped the hand on me, pulled it free and marched her to the darkest corner I could find. I pressed her soft body into the crook of a window.

With a parted mouth, she closed her eyes and tried to free herself. “What’s your fucking name?” she whispered, the venom in her voice sent chills down my spine.

Capturing her wrist, I pulled them above her head, loving the look of lust in her eyes. There was no stopping it now. I wasn’t leaving the barn until I’d tasted that smartass mouth. “Rage,” I whispered. “My name is Rage.”

Something crossed her face but was gone before I could read it. “Who the fuck are you? You aren’t Declan Samuels. I knew you didn’t look like a Declan. Why did you lie? Let me go!”

My grip tightened and a slight moan slipped from her lips. “Don’t act like you’re scared now, Champ. We both know this is what you want.” I held both hands in one wrist, slid my index finger down her face to her bottom lip. “And this is exactly what I need.”

She stared blankly up at me, her chest rising and falling in quick jolts, her hips pressed harder against my cock. “Why did you tell me so quickly? Why not try to hide it anymore?”

That was easy. “As soon as I saw you just now,” I pressed forward, “I knew I wanted to kiss those pouty lips. And I wanted you to say my fucking name when I did it. Not his. Mine.”

Out of Chances by Shona Husk
(Face the Music #4)
Publication date: November 22nd 2015
Genres: New Adult, Romance
Shona Husk’s sexy new adult series about emerging rock band Selling the Sun concludes this month with a story about a woman who doesn’t want to connect, a man who’s forgotten how and the friendships that save our lives.
Dan Clarke knows he doesn’t have a problem, regardless of whatever his band members, his friends, his family and everyone else thinks. Drinking isn’t keeping him from doing what needs to be done, and it helps keep the anger and pain of his ex-girlfriend’s betrayal at bay. If only she would stay away as well, but, since the band’s return to Fremantle, she’s everywhere-on the phone, in his apartment, at his parents’ house-begging for another chance, reminding him of how good they had been together, holding him hostage to the past. It’s no wonder he needs a beer now and again.
Indigo Matthews is all about control: she trains hard, she works hard and she plays hard. Men are for fun, not forever, and she will never end up like her mother, trapped and miserable. A huge Selling the Sun fan, Indigo knows when Dan wanders into her bar that he is a conquest that she has to make. But their connection is stronger than just sex, and regardless of her credo Indigo finds herself going back for more. Then truths about Dan’s life start to emerge, and Indigo finds herself in the one position she swore she’d never find herself.
A DUI, a drunk one night stand and an ultimatum from the band bring Dan’s life to a halt. Picking up the pieces is something he can’t do alone, and there’s only one person that he trusts to give a damn. The one person that he hurt the most. Indigo.
Excerpt:

As she knelt over Dan and took the mouthful of ice-cream he offered her. The gesture was so simple, the look on his face so tender that she accidentally melted a little inside. She liked him. Really liked him in the way she’d managed to not like any guy.

He loved what he did and was fun to be around. He showed what it was like to be someone instead of no one. He made her feel like someone.

It was one thing to think a guy was worth getting her panties off for, but another to want to see him again and again. She was beginning to enjoy seeing Dan entirely too much.

Which was a dangerous thing to do. The next thing she knew she’d be needing him and one day she’d wake up alone and crushed. The future of their dating life and his rising celebrity status flicked through her mind. This wasn’t going to end well. She should walk away now.

But he was smiling as he offered her another spoonful of ice-cream. Sitting here like this felt so normal—it was what she wanted. He was what she wanted in a guy and that was terrifying. The cold raced all the way to her toes.

‘What are we doing?’ Her words were soft, as though she was worried about breaking the moment.

He glanced up, the spoon almost to his lips. ‘Eating ice-cream? Am I doing it wrong?’

She shook her head. No, he was doing everything right. They were supposed to have sex once and never see each other again. She was supposed to have a shiny memory and a warm glow when she heard his music or saw him on stage. Now she wasn’t so sure.

He wasn’t just the bass player anymore. He was a real guy who didn’t shave every day, or dress up when she was coming over. He hadn’t made a single comment about what she was wearing. He’d seen her all dressed up and now like this with no make-up on and her hair in a knot.

They were entirely too comfortable with each other.

‘It’s just weird for me. Is it weird for you?’ She was boring Indigo from Kal, and he was Dan from Selling the Sun. This wasn’t supposed to happen. She was going to wake up and it was all going to be a dream. Or it was real life and it was going to turn into a nightmare.

‘Why would this be weird?’ Now he was frowning. ‘Eat more ice-cream.’ He offered her the loaded spoon, it seemed more salted caramel sauce than ice-cream.

She hesitated then ate. Maybe she was making it weird and reading too much into what was going on. He was enjoying being single and free, even if he was only being free with her. It was nice to know that he wasn’t sleeping with every fan who offered herself to him.

Have fun while it lasts and quit analysing it.

Or get up and walk away and never come back.

They were her only two options. But when she looked at him she knew she couldn’t walk away; she was having fun with him. She leaned closer and kissed him. His lips were cold and sweet, but his mouth was hot.

‘I can’t stay for too long, my sister thinks I ducked out for ice-cream.’ She wanted to stay all night. Her sister wouldn’t miss her.

‘Keeping me a secret?’

There was nothing to keep secret. ‘She doesn’t need to know about every guy I see.’

There was a flicker of something in his eyes. He put the ice-cream to the side and ran his hands up her thighs.

‘Well then, I wouldn’t want you to be late home.’ He sounded disappointed that she wouldn’t be staying the night.

Is that where they were at? Sleeping over? Well, he had already spent the night at her place. She couldn’t hang around until he got bored or someone else more exciting caught his eye. This wasn’t a relationship, but she could easily see how it could accidentally become one. She needed to regain control of what was happening. Not staying over was a good thing.

It didn’t feel like a good thing. And while he kissed her and undressed her, she could feel a distance that hadn’t been there before. She didn’t like it. The fun had been destroyed by a few careless words.
