Excerpt:

Jill’s gaze started at Sawyer’s eyelashes, which totally fascinated her. How could a thick bunch of dark hair be so seductive? Finally she let her eyes travel past his nose and to his lips. The music in her head wasn’t haunting, but it wasn’t upbeat either. It was like the background music to an old gospel hymn, peaceful with the promise of something eternal.

When she got to his slightly parted lips, the chemistry between them reached a brand-new height. His knuckles moved to trace her jawline, and then his hand splayed out, palm resting on her cheek, pinky teasing her ear, the rest holding her neck steady as his lips closed over hers.

Jill cupped his cheeks in her hands and took the first step to deepen the kiss. Desire fanned the fires of arousal until they were both panting. He moved from her lips to her neck, nuzzling, tasting, driving her crazy.

With one tug, all the snaps of his shirt popped open, and she buried her face in the soft black hair covering his bare chest. He groaned, and she shifted her weight until she was sitting in his lap.

It should not happen, but it was going to. Plain and simple. She wanted Sawyer. She needed him, and not even an act of God was going to stop what they’d started.

Will takes Evie for a drive:

“What’s wrong, Evie?” he asked in a quiet voice.

She startled. “Nothing. Why do you ask?”

“I remember that particular sigh. It means you’re not happy about something.”

She sat up straighter, trying to put some distance between them. The blasted man was impossibly large, and the Lord knew she wasn’t exactly a tiny thing. Between the two of them and the excess material of her riding habit, it was a miracle they were even able to fit into the curricle.
“I’m fine.” She flashed him what she hoped was a nonchalant smile. “I hardly think you know me very well, given the passage of time since we were children. I’ve grown up, Will.”
He glanced down at her, his gaze lingering on her face and then moving to her bosom. “You certainly have.”
Her mind blanked, struggling to find an appropriate reply. Unfortunately, there didn’t seem to be one.
Cautiously, she peered up at him. She hadn’t been sure before, but now it did seem clear that Will was flirting with her. Not that she was adept at flirtation, or even in recognizing the signs. In fact, she was monumentally bad at it. But she surely wasn’t mistaking the heat in Will’s eyes that had made them darken like smoke curling up from a blue flame.
When his lips tilted up in an amused smile, she realized her mouth was hanging open. She snapped it shut and jerked her head forward. “Will, you should keep your eyes on your pair. This road is quite bad after all the rains we’ve had this summer.”
His low laugh did things to her nerves and insides that defied description. It was beginning to dawn on Evie that what she’d felt for Will as a girl—as powerful as that had been—had lacked a full awareness of his potent physical attractions.
“Certainly, Madame Scold, whatever you say,” he teased.
“When have I ever scolded you, William Endicott?” she asked, retreating behind a façade of exasperation. “As I recall, you always led me around by the nose. Really, I’m quite ashamed of my weak-willed behavior back then.”
“If anyone did the leading, it was your sister,” he said dryly. “And if memory serves, you gave me quite a scolding last night.”
That comment gave her nerves another kind of jolt, one not nearly as pleasant.
“Yes, about that . . .” She threw a quick glance over her shoulder. Michael and Gilbride were catching up to the curricle, but were not yet close enough to eavesdrop.
Might as well get it over with.
Will’s calm expression as he managed the traces suggested nothing more than a friendly disinterest in the conversation. But she knew him as well as he knew her. If she didn’t miss her guess, most of his attention was still on her and not on his cattle.
“I owe you an apology, Will,” she said quietly.
He cocked his head, still looking politely disinterested. “I’m sorry, what did you say?”
She raised her voice a notch. “I behaved rather wretchedly to you in the drawing room last night, and you didn’t deserve it.” Well, not most of it, anyway.
He looked regretful. “You’ll have to speak up, Evie. I can’t hear you over the noise of the carriage wheels and the horses.”
The beast. He was going to make things difficult for her.
“I said I’m sorry,” she practically yelled. “Which you heard the first time, you brute.”
He laughed. “I am a brute, and for that I apologize. But I couldn’t resist because you looked so guilt-ridden.”
“I am guilt-ridden, and a gentleman would accept my heartfelt apology and be done with it,” she grumbled, crossing her arms over her chest.
His glance flicked absently down to her bosom, and Evie couldn’t help flushing. Then he returned his attention to the horses. “No apology is necessary, my dear girl. I earned that thundering scold. Not only for my behavior last night but for everything else, too.”

Excerpt:

“We dropped Corporal Riggs off a few blocks out from the scene. He hoofed it in over the rooftops while we were getting into position outside. He went in and set up the remote cameras and microphones while everyone inside was focused on us and the other police officers.”

Riggs and Taylor stared at their commander, clearly shocked by how open he’d been about their tactics to a member of the media. Mac was stunned, too. She’d been fishing when she’d asked the question. She hadn’t expected them to actually answer her.

Dixon chuckled. “You don’t have to look so alarmed. It’s not like I shared state secrets. Besides, Ms. Stone will be coming by the compound later today to take a look around and see how we operate.”

Mac did a double take. “Seriously?”

His amber eyes met hers. “That’s what you wanted, isn’t it? An in-depth look at a day in the life of a SWAT officer?”

She was more interested in finding out if they were hiding something, but she didn’t tell him that.

“I figured if I didn’t make the offer, you’d only hang around outside the compound for months until I agreed to let you in. Or until you tried to sneak into the middle of the next hostage situation,” he said. “This way we can do our job without worrying about you popping up out of nowhere, and you get to do yours without risking your life.” She opened her mouth to thank him, but he held up a finger. “There’s one condition, though.”

“Name it.”

“You agree not to detail any of our tactical procedures or techniques like the one I just told you about. You print those and you’ll get my team killed.” He lifted a brow. “Do we have an agreement?”

Mac nodded eagerly. “Yes.”

She’d agree to whatever he wanted if it got her in the compound—even if it meant going back on her word later. Although, after today, she wasn’t sure there was a story. She seriously doubted these guys were doing drugs, regardless of what Marvin said. But that didn’t matter. No way was she passing up an opportunity like this.

“I’ll see you at the compound this afternoon then,” Dixon said as he opened the door for her. “Say three o’clock?”

She smiled up at him. “I’ll be there.”

Mac had to resist the urge to do a little happy dance as she hurried back to the news van. She wasn’t sure how it had happened, but somehow she’d gotten herself an engraved invitation to get up close and personal with the country’s most elite tactical unit—the Dallas PD SWAT.

Quickie Review:

I loved Hungry Like the Wolf! It was a great read with lots of action, intrigue and sexiness! The men of SWAT (Special Wolf Alpha Team) have it all and I'm really looking forward to reading more about them.

Mackenzie Stone is a journalist investigating the city of Dallas' golden boys, the SWAT team that never seems to fail, after a source says they're doing some kind of performance enhancing drugs. Gage Dixon is the SWAT team commander, and they're all hiding the fact that they are a pack of wolf shifters.

The story was fast paced and I was completely lost in it. I loved the idea behind how the men in SWAT found out that they were shifters, it's something that I hadn't heard of before, and you know how I love unique ideas. Overall it was a fantastic start to a promising new series, I loved it and can't wait to read more!
