Blurb:  She's a mortal with dark powers...
After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude...until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire...
He's the Prince of Night...
Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all—but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him—a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.
First off, I've been waiting for this book for quite a while now, ever since we first met Vlad in the Night Huntress series I've wanted to know more about him. Now that the wait is over, it was totally worth it! I loved this book and read it all straight through & couldn't put it down.
Vlad captivated me in the Night Huntress series, and Jeaniene Frost did not dissapoint! His character is the strong, silent, and deadly type. There are things that I didn't like about Vlad, mainly his penchant for torture, but the good things about him far outweigh the bad (for me anyway). He is extremely loyal and takes his job as protector of his line & people very seriously, which is quite admirable. I also love that he knows exactly what he wants and goes for it (ie. Leila).
Leila is a new character in the Night Huntress World, but a welcome addition as the love interest for Vlad. She is a human that has suffered from an accident as a teen which allows her to channel electricity and read people & objects. She is a really strong woman, even growing up scarred and somewhat disabled by her abilities (she tends to shock everyone she touches) she keeps on going.
Because of Vlad's abilities to withstand fire unharmed he makes a perfect match for Leila. Their chemistry is amazing (seriously hot) in this book and you can tell from the get-go that Vlad wants her. But of course, there has to be some conflict to make it interesting and Leila tries to resist her attraction to him.
“Two Leilas seemed to be battling it out inside me. The first was outraged that he still considered it a fait accompli that I'd give in to him, and the second...that slutty bitch was wondering what Vlad looked like naked.”
Right from the very beginning you are pulled into Leila's life and the action starts and it doesn't let up till the book is over. We even get to see some of the other characters from the Night Huntress world, but I'm not going to give it away!
If you liked the Night Huntress series you are definitely going to want to read this one, it's a wonderful addition to that world. If you haven't read any of her other books, you wouldn't be lost if you started with this one. Overall, it was an excellent read. I loved it and didn't want it to be over, and now I can't wait until the next installment comes out!
